Under tight schedule, limited access and unpredictable weather conditions.
April, 2012
Location: Prince Rupert, BC, Canada
Global Rigging & Transport announced it has completed the replacement of two damaged 2 3/4" forestays on a coal terminal ship loader located in north central BC.
With ships waiting off shore to be loaded with coal, limited access, nothing more than a small truck allowed on the dock and the threat of heavy weather causing unwanted wave action, the crews of GRT persevered to complete the assigned project on time.
GRT engineers designed a crutch to take the weight of the ship loader while the cable stays were replaced. GRT rigging crews had to assemble the crutch and handle the stays using a crane on a barge due to the limited access restrictions on the dock. This proved to be challenging with minimal winds causing unwelcome seas which in turn caused excessive support crane movement.
Management and staff at RTI and GRT are pleased with the outcome of the project and we at GRT look forward to working with RTI on future endeavours.
