Location: Tampa, Florida and Crystal River Florida
Client: Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC)
Project: Relocate (2) Ship Unloaders from a heavy lift ship in Tampa, FL and relocate to Duke Energy in Crystal River, FL

GRT was contracted by ZPMC to transship two ship unloaders from their heavy lift ship to a 400'x100' barge in Tampa, Florida, secure the Ship Unloaders  to the barge for the short voyage up to Duke Energy's facility in Crystal River, Florida and unload the Ship Unloaders from the barge onto Duke Energy's dock.

The 14 mile channel from the Gulf of Mexico to Duke Energy's site was too narrow and too shallow for the heavy lift ship to navigate.  GRT coordinated to meet the ZPMC's heavy lift ship, that departed from Shanghai, in Tampa.  Tampa is the closest deep water port to Crystal River.

GRT provided the following:

  • All marine vessels for the transshipment in Tampa, voyage to Crystal River and unloading at Duke

  • Equipment for moving the ship unloaders from the heavy lift ship to the barge in Tampa and from the barge to Duke Energy's dock

  • Motion study and stability analysis of the barge for the transshipment of the ship unloaders from heavy lift ship to barge, the voyage to Crystal River and unloading at Duke

  • Ballast engineering for the transshipment of the ship unloaders in Tampa and unloading the ship unloaders at Duke

  • Ballast system for the barge for the transshipment of the ship unloaders in Tampa and unloading the ship unloaders on Duke energy's dock

  • Engineering structural analysis of the heavy lift ship and barge for the transshipment of the ship unloaders from heavy lift ship to the barge and unloading from the barge at Duke

  • Mooring system for securing the barge to the heavy lift ship during the trans-loading and unloading of the ship unloaders at Duke
